FAQ's

Is Acupuncture safe?

Yes, very! It is virtually impossible to injure a person, or to contract a communicable disease from an acupuncture needle. The Board of Health has provided strict regulations for sterile needle technique. In our office, only disposable, pre-sterilized needles are used.

Does Acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture needles are made of extremely thin stainless steel, and are slender and flexible. Most people experience no or minimal discomfort as the needles are inserted. Some people are energized by acupuncture, while others get extremely relaxed.

First VisitWhat should I expect from the first visit?

During your first office visit, we will ask you at length about your health condition, lifestyle, and diet. We strive to obtain a complete picture of your treatment needs and behaviors that may contribute to your condition. Please inform us about all treatments, medications and supplements you are taking, and all medical conditions you have.

In most cases, you will receive Acupuncture during the first visit. This visit traditionally takes between 1.5 to 2 hours.

How often should I receive Acupuncture Treatment?

Since Acupuncture opens up blocked energy, the frequency of treatments often depends on the length of time a certain problem has existed. It also depends on your constitution, your vital energy, and the progress you make.

As a rule, acute situations can be resolved very quickly, within one to five treatments, depending on severity. Chronic problems have settled in your cell memory, and need to be gradually "re-programmed". You may need one to two treatments per week initially, followed by weekly treatment. One rule of thumb is one month of treatment per year of the existing problem, but I have been positively surprised at most peoples rapid healing capacity.

How soon can I expect results?

Frequently results are immediate, especially in acute conditions. Chronic situations may take a few sessions to open up and respond positively to Acupuncture.

How long does the effect last?

Everybody has a different response to Acupuncture. In the first few sessions, a healing effect may last up to several days, while later on, it can carry you for a longer time. Much depends on your life style: Do you go back to where things were? Are you actively working on stress relief, diet, amount of sleep? These factors can influence how long an Acupuncture treatment will carry you.

Are Chinese Herbs safe?

All herbs in our Artemesia Pharmacy are processed in the US. All our US companies have merchants that select wild-grown or farm-grown herbs from Korea and China that are known to have minimal pollution. After arriving in the US, the herbs are tested for contamination. They are then purified, dried and combined into formulas.

With recent scares about polluted articles from China, we take special pre-cautions not to sell herbs from China-based herb companies.

We do not sell Chinese herbal formulas that contain animal products!

Does my insurance pay for Acupuncture?

If you are unsure, give them a call. Every insurer and every plan has different regulations.

While we do not accept insurance processing, we will help you to get re-imbursed. Ask us for a detailed invoice.
